Does the US really need another war?

It seems at least Mitt Romney does, when in yesterday’s Republican debate, he vowed

If we re-elect Barack Obama, Iran will have a nuclear weapon. And if you elect Mitt Romney, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon

As if the the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan haven’t caused enough harm and created enough divisions in the US, now Mitt Romney and his fellow Republicans are advocating we start another war in Iran.

How quickly and willingly the likes of Mitt Romney, Michelle Bachmann and Newt Gingrich are to send our troops to war, into harms way, to make the ultimate sacrifice at the drop of a hat. After all, none of them, nor their families will have to make any sacrifice.

It’s not surprising though, it’s how Republicans think. They don’t care that some in this country will have to make extraordinary sacrifices to promote their agenda, as long as it isn’t them personally.

This attitude even goes beyond the military extending to the US economy. Raise taxes on the very rich, NEVER. But make the poor, the sick and the elderly sacrifice through cuts to social programs, i.e. social security, medicare, and medicaid, and that’s OK.

So if you think it’s a good idea for the US to get into another war, and to balance the budget on the backs of the poor, the sick and the elderly, then vote Republican in the next general election.

This upcoming election will finally put to rest what kind of country the US really is.
